Week of 9/18-9/22

Hey Grizzlies!

We are getting SO CLOSE to finishing our personal narratives! We are hoping to have completed the stories by FRIDAY! Most kids will have also gone through the entire revising/editing process as well. We are so excited to hear about all their great stories and memories!

Here is our weekly PowerPoint.

Our big writing focuses have been:

1) Using the past tense
2) Using the five senses to add descriptive elements (see, taste, touch, hear, smell)
3) Working on punctuation and capitalization
4) Working on structuring each paragraph so there is an overall cohesive feel
5) Lastly, we are working on students using vocabulary that is strong, powerful, and descriptive!

Ask your kiddo what they're writing about, and if you can read it!

Week of 4/3-4/6 TESTING

Hi Grizzlies! It is important to know that testing is coming! 6th and 8th grade start next week with 7th grade starting Thursday, April 19th. In class, we are prepping for testing with multiple choice practice as well as sample essay questions. Since test prep is not the most fun, we are only doing this for the next week or so. The goal is for kids to be prepared for content they see on the test and now how to go about answering questions and writing prompts correctly. Today, we started with a fiction passage, and reviewed annotating, genre focus, as well as multiple choice testing strategies. Here are our weekly  lesson plans. Week of 4/23-4/27

Good Morning! It is getting close to the end of the year, and what a great year it has been! As of this afternoon, we will be DONE with testing! We are starting my favorite research project of the year....the TRAVEL PROJECT!  This project gives kids $5,000 (fake) dollars and has them research a country to visit as well as hotel accommodations, flights, and activities. This project requires learning how to budget their money to have a fabulous time! Another part of this project is that students will create a travel blog using past tense to tell about their pretend vacation and practice writing. Finally, students will create a detailed Google Slides show that they will present about their country and trips to the entire class! Here is all the information on the  travel project! Week of 1/16-19 PLUS IMPORTANT ACCESS DATES!

Hi Grizzlies! We are in full swing back at school! Last week we started our unit on "Rights" and focused on student rights at school. This week we are focused on American right, and next week we will finish up with human rights around the world! Some of our main objectives this unit are: 1) Identifying main idea in non-fiction 2) Identifying supporting details in non-fiction 3) Vocabulary 4) The present perfect tense (Ex. I have played basketball for 10 years) 5) Constructing a 5 paragraph essay 6) Perfecting our RACE responses PLEASE note the upcoming dates for ACCESS testing! J anuary 29th, 30th, February 1st, 2nd (plus one make-up day February 5th). PLEASE try and make sure your child attends school on these days!
