Week of 9/18-9/22

Hey Grizzlies! We are getting SO CLOSE to finishing our personal narratives! We are hoping to have completed the stories by FRIDAY! Most kids will have also gone through the entire revising/editing process as well. We are so excited to hear about all their great stories and memories! Here is our weekly PowerPoint. Our big writing focuses have been: 1) Using the past tense 2) Using the five senses to add descriptive elements (see, taste, touch, hear, smell) 3) Working on punctuation and capitalization 4) Working on structuring each paragraph so there is an overall cohesive feel 5) Lastly, we are working on students using vocabulary that is strong, powerful, and descriptive! Ask your kiddo what they're writing about, and if you can read it! Thanks awesome parents for continuing the students' language support at home! Sincerely, Mrs. Hines

Good Morning Grizzlies! We have a BIG week this week! Last week, we began our personal narratives. Students wrote a hook for their story as well as began practicing using the five senses to make their writing stronger and more descriptive. This week, our goal is to FINISH our first draft! Here is a copy of our final rubric for our personal narrative. We will have mini-lessons each day, which you can see on our PowerPoint each day. Today, our mini lesson is word choice, and trying to change average vocabulary into AWESOME vocabulary! Today's writing goal: To construct the first paragraph of a personal narrative. Remember, after-school tutorials are today and Thursday from 4-4:30! Thank you so much and have a great day! Sincerely, Kristen Hines

Good Morning Grizzlies! I hope everyone had a great long weekend! This week, I am super excited to begin our personal narrative writing unit! In this unit, we will practice pre-writing, revising and editing, and how to make our writing more vivid and grammatically correct. Today's objectives: 1) Students will be able to organize their ideas using a graphic organizer. 2) Students will define and create a HOOK for their personal narrative that will grab the reader's attention.  3) Students will use the past simple tense to discuss their weekends. Here is a copy of our PowerPoint for the week for  4th period. Things you can do at home:  1) Ask about their novel and what's happening in the book. 2) Ask which topic they chose to write about 3) Ask them to why it's important to do pre-writing 4) Encourage students to read EVERY night for 15 minutes Let's make it a great week! Sincerely, Kristen Hines
