It's MAY!

Hello lovely Grizzlies! Happy MAY and almost end of year! We are still working on our travel research project this week as well as presenting next week, and I have kept all our lessons on one Google Slides HERE for this project. It is lengthy but has EVERYTHING the kiddos need to complete all parts of the project.  Please be on the lookout for ACCESS scores coming home soon. They should be sent in the next few weeks!  Thank you and please contact me with any questions or concerns! Sincerely Kristen Hines

Week of 4/23-4/27

Good Morning! It is getting close to the end of the year, and what a great year it has been! As of this afternoon, we will be DONE with testing! We are starting my favorite research project of the year....the TRAVEL PROJECT!  This project gives kids $5,000 (fake) dollars and has them research a country to visit as well as hotel accommodations, flights, and activities. This project requires learning how to budget their money to have a fabulous time! Another part of this project is that students will create a travel blog using past tense to tell about their pretend vacation and practice writing. Finally, students will create a detailed Google Slides show that they will present about their country and trips to the entire class! Here is all the information on the  travel project! These projects are DUE MAY 10th! We will present May 10th and 11th.  We are so looking forward to all the great things the kids discover and research! *REMINDER* There is no school for students th

PARCC TESTING

Hi Grizzlies! Testing is COMING! This week, 6th grade starts testing WEDNESDAY and 8th grade starts testing FRIDAY! We are doing our best to review and prepare for the ELA 1, 2, & 3 tests that ALL Rocky Top students will take. Please see our lesson plans for this week and make sure your kiddo gets plenty of sleep and a healthy breakfast! Thank you for your support! Sincerely, Mrs. Hines

Week of 4/3-4/6 TESTING

Hi Grizzlies! It is important to know that testing is coming! 6th and 8th grade start next week with 7th grade starting Thursday, April 19th. In class, we are prepping for testing with multiple choice practice as well as sample essay questions. Since test prep is not the most fun, we are only doing this for the next week or so. The goal is for kids to be prepared for content they see on the test and now how to go about answering questions and writing prompts correctly. Today, we started with a fiction passage, and reviewed annotating, genre focus, as well as multiple choice testing strategies. Here are our weekly  lesson plans. Hope everyone had a great spring break! Sincerely, Mrs. Hines

Week of 3/19-3/23

Hi Grizzlies! Only FOUR more days until Spring Break....but who's counting?! :) This week we are tackling persuasive texts and language of "justifying". We are going to be debating and writing persuasive essays right up until spring break! Here are our lesson plans for the week! Hope everyone has some fun plans next week, and also gets some rest! Sincerely, Kristen Hines

Week of 3/12-3/16
